PhotoEspaña 2011: Susana de Sousa Dias´ "48" is part of the Official Selection and inaugurates the Nave 16, a unique exhibition space in the city of Madrid. 48, a film by Susana de Sousa Dias, is, as of today, open to the public in the Nave 16, the new heart of the visual arts of Matadero, Madrid, Center for Contemporary Creation.
The 11th edition of PhotoEspaña, is dedicated to the topic: Interfaces, Portrait and Communication. Susana de Sousa Dias´ film is part of the Official Selection consisting of 21 exhibitions, out of the total of 68 which make up the entire event.
The work 48 was chosen by the organizers to officially inaugurate the Nave 16. This is a new exhibition space, unique in the city of Madrid for its size (about 5000 m2) and for its architectural versatility which consists of a system of black iron gates, each 12 meters high, allowing control not only of the space, but also of the sunlight.

 48 in the International Femmes de Créteil Film Festival
Created in 1979, the International Festival of Films Femmes Créteil welcomes filmmakers from around the world. 150 films reflect the womens pespective on their society. The festival, which witnessed historical debates, remains attentive to artistic endeavors, political and social development of women around the world through his films. True to its commitment to end all forms of discrimination based on race, sex, culture, social class, the Festival took its dual heritage along with feminism and cultural action, putting the questioning of the image and the modes of its representation in the center of their reflections.
"A Outra Guerra" no Festival Pêcheurs du monde
  "A Outra Guerra", the latest movie of Elsa Sertório and Ansgar Schaefer is a part of the official selection of the Pêcheurs du Monde Festival (24 to 27 March 2011). The festival, founded in 2008 by directors, former fishermen, members of associations linked to the sea and to fishing, is held annually in Lorient, Brittany. Its selection pays particular attention to high value cinematic films that give a new angle on the reality of fishing and fishermen from all five continents. "A Outra Guerra" will be shown on the sixth day Wednesday 25 March 20.30.

48 by Susana de Sousa Dias wins a special mention in the Internacional Punto de Vista Festival
The prestiged international festival of documentary-making of Navarra, Punto de Vista, closes its seventh edition with the granting of a Special Mention at the recent work of Susana de Sousa Dias. Since 2005, the Punto de Vista - International Documentary Film
Festival s eeks works of visual artists who make their work a bold and risky proposal and who reflect on the reality through the ethical relationship they establish with both the protagonists and the public.
In his comments the jury justifies his choice by saying: "por su uso evocador y dialéctico de las fotografías y las voces de los prisioneros políticos para sacudir el pasado criminal y trágico del país".
The latest prize given to Susana de Sousa Dias´ movie, the sixth that the film receives, confirms once again the extraordinary international success that has accompanied this work. In the first quarter of 2011, the movie, which had as completion date 2009, was screened at festivals and conferences in London, Paris, Belgrade, Belgium, Pamplona, Bratislava, Nice and Cairo.

"48" wins the prize for best World Documentary in the Czech Republic Just seven days after winning the FIPRESCI PRIZE in Dok Leipzig 2010, previously awarded with the Grand Prize of the Cinema du Reel, "48" wins the Opus Bonum prize for Best World Documentary in the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival in the Czech Republic. After being displayed in Jihlava and the Viennale, during the months of November and December "48" will be attending the film festivals in Istanbul, Sarajevo, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Belo Horizonte, Leeds, Turin, Milan and Corsica. The section’s juror commented on his decision: “In the end there was one movie whose pictures cut me deeper than the rest. Every image in this film was made by a criminal wearing a police uniform, culled from the secret detention archives of Portugal’s police. The filmmaker seeks out survivors, who tell their simple but complicated stories of torture and disfigurement and survival; in other words, they show the cost of having a face, the cost of seeing a face like this one. "48" awarded with the FIPRESCI prize in Leipzig 48 receives a prestigious award at a festival of international renown once more, the DOK Leipzig - International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, Germany, held 18-24 October 2010. The award was given by the FIPRESCI - Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique - which only gives awards in certain festivals such as Locarno, Karlovy Vary, Pusan or Viennale. 48 was also selected for new festivals like the Pravo Ljudski Human Rights Film Festival (Bosnia Herzegovina), Filmaker Doc (Italy) or Festival On Wheels (Turkey), being present in 17 festivals between October and December this year.
