"48" awarded with the FIPRESCI prize in Leipzig

48 receives a prestigious award at a festival of international renown once more, the DOK Leipzig - International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, Germany, held 18-24 October 2010.

The award was given by the FIPRESCI - Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique - which only gives awards in certain festivals such as Locarno, Karlovy Vary, Pusan ​​or Viennale.

 

48 was also selected for new festivals like the Pravo Ljudski Human Rights Film Festival (Bosnia Herzegovina), Filmaker Doc (Italy) or Festival On Wheels (Turkey), being present in 17 festivals between October and December this year.

 "48" - Opening film for Dockanema 2010

"48", Susana de Sousa Dias´last film is the opener for the fifth edition of Dockanema: Maputo´s Documentary film festival, which takes place from the 10th to the 19th of september in Maputo, Mozambique.

"48", which was partially filmed in Mozambique, will be shown in the Eduardo Mondlane university, featuring the prsence of the director and of some of the protagonists.

The film will also participate in many renowned festivals such as the Leeds film festival, the Turin film festival, the Viennale, and the Dok Leipzig.

"48" galardoado com o Grande Prémio no Festival Cinéma du Réel em Paris

Depois de Natureza Morta-Visages d’une Dictature (filme galardoado a nível internacional e exibido em festivais e mostras em cinco continentes), Susana de Sousa Dias voltou a centrar-se nos tempos do Estado Novo, utilizando um dispositivo cinematográfico inovador.

Partindo de um conjunto de fotografias de cadastro de prisioneiros políticos e das suas vozes, a realizadora traça-nos um retrato dos 48 anos de ditadura revelando aspectos ocultos e rompendo tabus.

Numa altura em que a temática da tortura atinge uma nova actualidade a nível mundial, 48 leva-nos a reflectir sobre o legado português nesta matéria e as suas consequências nos dias de hoje.
